During 1940, when a Nazi invasion was feared, a network of defensive pillboxes was hastily built all over Britain. Out of 28,000 built it is estimated that less than 6,000 now remain. Here are three in Essex:

As a disappearing remnant of our architectural and social history I wonder if they're listed and also think that they're an interesting subject for photography.
