I'm working through my family tree in the 1841 to 1911 censuses and have come across Robert Boyle who was born on the 5th Dec 1849 in Roehampton, Surrey.
In 1851 he was at 26 Hill Street, London with his maternal grandparents and is registered as blind or deaf or dumb aged 1.
In 1861 he's with his widowed mother at 25 Grosvenor St, is listed as Scholar and no afflictions are mentioned.
In 1871 he's living at 3 Abbey Place with retired surgeon William Blunden and is described as an idiot.
In 1881 William Blunden is dead and he's living with his widow, Sarah, in Upminster and is described as a Gentleman Imbecile.
He died on 29 Dec 1890 and was buried in Kensal Green.
Is it just me - sometimes the census returns throw up fairly horrible information in a crude fashion.
